The Apache Wars by Paul Andrew Hutton is a history account
of the Apache Native Americans. It’s the story of the 1861 kidnapping of a boy
who grows up to be Mickey Free “the only man Geronimo ever feared” started the
longest war in American history. It was a brutal struggle between the Apaches
and the U.S. government for control of the Southwest.
Reading history has never been a great pleasure for me but
lately I realize how important history really is for our country. It is
important to keep those stories alive so that future generations learn from
mistakes as well as the things that have been done right. The unfortunate,
horrible treatment of the Native Americans by the US government was awful but a
very important part of our history. Reading this book it seems to be well
researched. Not being a history buff it was a little difficult for me to get
into but the story was fantastic. Some
parts were a little hard to follow and there were a lot of characters to keep
up with. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book. I plan on keeping this for my son, I believe it will be a good book to keep for
his future history curriculum. I really liked the addition of the photos and
illustrations included in the book. They really helped bring this book alive
and helped make connections. I would
have liked to have seen some maps of the time to get a feel of the locations.
I would recommend this book for history buffs or anyone who
is interested in learning more about history and Native Americans. I received this book at no charge in exchange
for an honest review from bloggingforbooks.com
